As a pastor, I consider it not only an honor but also a great responsibility to stand before you each week and delve into the Word of God. The pulpit isn’t just a stage from which to deliver spiritual guidance; it’s an educational platform where we explore Biblical texts together. My role goes beyond merely citing scriptures. I aim to offer a balanced, nuanced understanding of the Bible that upholds its integrity while making the lessons accessible and relevant to each one of you.

Distinguishing Biblical Facts from Historical Context

When preparing my sermons, I pay special attention to differentiate between the text of the Bible and historical or cultural context that could enrich our understanding. While such context can provide valuable insights into the scripture, it’s crucial to remember that these additional details aren’t scripture themselves. When I bring in historical information or cultural perspectives, I make it a point to clarify that this content is supplementary and not a part of the actual Biblical text.

Opinions and Theological Interpretation: Striking the Balance

Like anyone else, I too have personal experiences and opinions, but I am conscientious about not presenting them as Biblical truths. Instead, I aim to make it clear what arises directly from the scriptures and what are theological insights or personal reflections. I strive to keep the line distinct between exegetical findings—that is, interpretations grounded in rigorous study of the text—and viewpoints shaped by my own or contemporary perspectives.

The Challenge of Maintaining Clarity in the Heat of the Moment

I’ll admit, there are times when the excitement or emotional resonance of a topic can blur these lines slightly. While I always strive for clarity, there are instances when I might get caught up in the passion of the message. Rest assured, this is never an attempt to mislead, but a very human moment where the boundaries might get a little fuzzy.
